What’s in a name? Spotted in a poem, scribbled in a notebook, and bent slightly out of shape, ‘Odmansbox’ – with its suggestion of a musical knick-knack drawer or junk shop – reflects the Birmingham 3-piece’s magpie aesthetic. Off-kilter, poker-faced, jokey but deadly serious, their lugubrious bangers fleetingly recall all your favourite bands while never losing their elusive essence.

Having released their first EP ‘I’ve Got Nothing’ in 2018 (the title track of which was picked up by BBC Introducing and Brum Radio), they headed to Lincolnshire to record its follow up with Dave Formula, owner of the Sweet Factory and former keyboardist with Magazine.

The resulting EP “A Low Key Affair” is vibrant and driving, while the lyrics tell of disillusionment with teenage love, the cost of weddings, and the dreams of the 1960s. Its lead single ‘Take the Money & Run’, released with a video that sees the band let loose among fairground rides and arcade games, is another dusty gem from their jumble sale of influences, stories, and hooks.

‘Take the Money & Run’ will be released on 27.05.19.

Speaking frankly, it feels like the best track to come out of Liverpool this year” Get Into This

Ali Horn is back. Liverpool’s prodigal son returns with his kaleidoscopic new single ‘Modern Voodoo’. Released via Rooftop Records, the track is already gaining support from both his local BBC Introducing and BBC 6 Music.

Speaking of his new single, Ali says ‘Nowadays I think people (including myself) have forgotten what life is really about. We’re force-fed consumer fetichism and the full brightness glare of a phone screen has replaced real eye contact. We’re distracted by transient pleasures and it seems that climbing a social ladder where nobody has even met has become more important than family. I’m disgusted by it and I’m part of it. That’s Modern Voodoo. BUT… There’s a way out.’

Having recently performed at Parr Street Studios during the BBC 6 Music Festival in Liverpool, Ali will be back playing in his hometown for Liverpool Sound City before setting off for a string of shows throughout May.
