Demelza are an alternative-rock band fresh onto the Birmingham scene this year. Formed in Selly Oak just a matter of months ago, they infuse elements of jazz and funk into their sound to complement the assured and powerful vocals of lead singer Cherry Halfyard. With two guitarists, Fred Davies and Samuel Gale, they can produce a huge diversity of sounds that take inspiration from guitarists such as John Frusciante and Johnny Marr amongst others. The band is rounded off by Tom Stockwell on drums and Sven Lam on the bass, who together form a firm base for the band’s sound to stand upon. The mix of heartfelt lyrics, high tempo guitar riffs and anthemic choruses will be sure to take you from crying to dancing your socks off within the same set.
