Introducing Velvet Dreams EP, the debut from psychedelic shoegazer trio Is Bliss, released on Club AC30 – a tantalising taster of this new band’s potential. The EP’s atmosphere resonates strongly with the hazy sixties underground, with its sitarlike waterfall guitars and hypnogogic beats, but other, harder influences bleed through. The band have been together barely a year and yet have quickly gained attention opening for Wolf AliceTelescopes and Nine Black Alps. Support from Birmingham Mogwai-influenced Outlander.

With a powerful voice that spans ranges and eras & an effortless approach to a fine melody on the guitar, the Illinois singer-songwriter sets the bar high for the modern folk artist. Robert Plant declared himself a fan – as did double-bass legend Danny Thompson, with whom Ryley would later embark on a string of sell-out British shows. A sprawling tour of the USA around Primrose Green presented a perfect chance to workshop ideas for what would eventually become his third studio album, Golden Sings That Have Been Sung. Introducing: Frisco

June 6, 2016 in News

Member of the Boy Better Know collective and CEO of The Den, Frisco first garnered attention after what can only be described as a legendary battle with Grime God Father Wiley in Ayia Napa, Cyprus in 2003. Frisco gained further recognition for his appearance in the Skepta produced ‘Private Caller’. In his 2006 return after a 12 month hiatus, Frisco released his first mixtape; (thus pioneering the practice of doing so in the Grime scene) titled Back 2 Da Lab Volume 1, which was a great underground success and was followed by Volume 2.

Frisco’s sound has taken him across the globe having performed in countries such as Cyprus, Crete, Ibiza, Zante, Netherlands, Jamaica, Paris, New York, Croatia and Denmark just to name a few. 2012 saw Frisco embark on his first solo UK tour alongside fellow Boy Better Know patriot Jammer. After taking a short creative break, March 2014 saw Big Fris return with the critically acclaimed EP British Nights which many regard as his best release thus far.

Therapy? announce Birmingham headline show

February 3, 2015 in News

“YOU DON’T LOOK LIKE A BOY THAT SINGS…”

This quietly devastating critique, delivered to Therapy? frontman Andy Cairns by a workmate at a Michelin tyre factory in the late ‘80s, neatly encapsulates the sense of suspicion and confusion which enveloped the Northern Irish band at the outset of their career. Outsiders from day one, Therapy? have drawn upon the attendant feelings of alienation, frustration and dislocation for strength and inspiration across their remarkable 26 year career, crafting a dark, idiosyncratic worldview which has garnered the group a reputation as one of the most uncompromising, creative and individualistic bands of their generation. Disquiet, the band’s fourteenth studio album, extends this proud legacy, and finds the trio of Cairns, bassist Michael McKeegan and drummer Neil Cooper in incendiary form.

Therapy?’s first recording for new label Amazing Record CoDisquiet is 11 tracks of charged, in-your-face, bruisingly melodic punk/metal. A sequel of sorts to the band’s million-selling 1994 album Troublegum, it’s by turns confrontational, challenging, vengeful and venomous, a visceral and utterly compelling document of a confident band operating at the peak of their powers. Produced by Tom Dalgety (Royal Blood/Band of Skulls/Turbowolf) at Blast studios in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and featuring cover art by long time collaborator Nigel Rolfe, it’s both the most accessible record Therapy? have made in two decades, and a reaffirmation of their healthy respect for noise, chaos and unsettling psychodrama.

Disquiet is released on 23rd March 2015 via Amazing Record Co.

Loyle Carner to support Kate Tempest

January 13, 2015 in News

“Loyle Carner is Britains most recent new hope in hip hop,” according to The Fader and countless others. The 20 year old emcee from South London has been causing quite a stir following the release of his debut A Little Late EP in September of last year. All but one track on the EP was produced by Loyle’s right hand man and live partner Rebel Kleff. The two of them create reminiscent old school hip hop with their own UK and modern influences.

Following the release of the A Little Late EP, Loyle has gone on to work with the likes of Kate Tempest, Maverick Sabre, Tom Misch and multiple others, all in preparation for releases in 2015. With two successful UK tours now under his belt with Joey Bada$$ and Atmosphere, Loyle has also been championed on Radio 1Xtra by DJ Semtex and Phil Taggart, Huw Stephens and Lauren Laverne at Radio 1. His latest single with Kate Tempest was added to 6Music’s B-list and then bumped up to the A-List immediately after a week and has not stopped being played.

Kate Tempest announces second Birmingham date

October 24, 2014 in News

With the Mercury Music Prize round the corner and her Nov 2014 tour sold out, critically acclaimed Kate Tempest is adding more live dates to her Feb 2015 tour, including a show at The Rainbow Warehouse Birmingham on Wed 11th February 2015.

Kate Tempest started out when she was 16, rapping at strangers on night buses and pestering mc’s to let her on the mic at raves. Ten years later she is a published playwright, novelist, poet and respected recording artist.

Her debut album Everybody Down has finally hit the shelves – real and virtual – to ubiquitous acclaim. And it’s not just the press. Kate played a one off, intimate gig in London to celebrate the release, and Rick Rubin and Frank Ocean were amongst the wowed audience along with The Guardian who awarded it a stunning 5/5 review.

Seeing Kate Tempest perform live enhances everything you hear on the album. She is earnest, urgent, savvy, streetwise, warm and most of all, riotously talented with words. She’s no simple showboat MC, revelling in speed alone, but someone who uses her staggering command of language to create music with narrative, themes, character and meaning in a way unique to her genre. She’s a rapper who makes poetry out of rap music.

Don’t miss your chance to see one of the most thrilling young artists in the UK just now, and get up close to the results of her visceral talent. If you don’t go see her this time, we can promise that when you do, you’ll have to stand a lot further from the stage.
