Listen: Superfood – ‘Mood Bomb’

September 16, 2014 in News

Superfood release their new single, ‘Mood Bomb’, on the 3rd November 2014. It is taken from their forthcoming debut album, Don’t Say That, also released 3rd November through Infectious Music.

Don’t Say That builds on all the band’s early promise from those initial EPs and singles (Bubbles/Melting/TV/Right On Satellite) with a fully-realised collection of melody-heavy, guitar-driven songs.  ‘Mood Bomb’ is an intelligently crafted indie-rock tune, stamped with Superfood’s natural ear for instant hooks but delivered with a force and depth that gives fair suggestion that this British band aren’t merely of the moment, but in it for the long haul.

“[Superfood] tug on a melodic thread that stretches from Blur right back to The Beatles” – The Guardian

Drenge & Superfood to support Peace

August 27, 2013 in News

Peace have announced the supports for their biggest hometown headline show to date – Sheffield duo Drenge, and local four-piece Superfood will open for the band at the O2 Academy Birmingham on Friday 13th December 2013.

After months of being championed almost exclusively by blogs and indie rags, Drenge made national news this summer when Labour MP Tom Watson resigned from the shadow cabinet while telling world that he “was seized with those fragmentary moments of pure music joy that festival goers live for” after discovering brothers Eoin and Rory Loveless’ music at Glastonbury. While it might not have been the most credible affirmation of their talents, it’s certainly spread the band’s name beyond the small village of Castleton where they grew up.

Their eponymous debut album is laced with punchy breakbeats, thrashy riffs, and psychedelic bluesy rackets with hints of Eagles of Death MetalThe Hives & QOTSA. It’s anthemic, razor sharp garage rock of the finest pedigree; raucous and relentless, fevered and furious – little wonder Zane Lowe has featured them on his ‘Hottest Record in the World’ segment recently.

Their live shows amplify Drenge’s strengths to an even greater degree. Despite the relatively basic setup of Rory on drums and Eoin on guitar, they still manage to make a deliriously addictive racket that takes listeners on a dizzying rollercoaster ride as potent as it is addictive. With dates supporting FIDLARMystery Jets & Deap Vally already under their belt Drenge are clearly making all the right (angry) noises.

Hailing from Birmingham,  four-piece oddball gang Superfood have gained a fierce live reputation, initially with zero singles, zero YouTube videos and not even a Soundcloud to their name. Shrouded in accidental secrecy, it wasn’t until recently that Superfood unveiled their first ever recorded track that started it all entitled, er, ‘Superfood’.

This January they finally unveiled themselves to a capacity Old Blue Last crowd supporting fellow brummies Jaws. A sold out UK tour supporting Peace quickly followed, as well as their own sold out headline show at Birmingham’s The Rainbow.

“Merging the buoyant pop hooks of Supergrass and the baggy tinges of Blur into something that shimmers as hard as it swaggers.” – NME
