Slow Club to play Birmingham Xmas show

December 1, 2016 in News

Slow Club have announced a string of Christmas UK live dates, which they will play as a two-piece, in support of their new Matthew E White produced album One Day All Of This Won’t Matter Anymore (available now via Moshi Moshi Records).

From the cute indie-folk of their 2009 debut Yeah So, to the wonky-pop of its follow up Paradise, two years later, to the sophisticated, polished soul of 2014’s Complete Surrender, this is a band that have never stood still, going out of their way to present a new version of themselves on every release, while maintaining the spirit, the warmth and the chemistry that has marked their music since they formed in 2006.

At their heart Slow Club are still a pop band and One Day…contains some of the best melodies they’ve yet created. The duo’s knack for writing hooks and melody has, if anything, become stronger.

Slow Club to play The Institute Birmingham

June 23, 2014 in News

Slow Club is Sheffield boy-girl duo Charles Watson and Rebecca Taylor. The band formed in 2005 when they were both still teenagers and spent the next two years touring relentlessly, eventually releasing their debut album Yeah So in 2009 on Moshi Moshi Records.

Initially categorized as “anti-folk” the album proved there was so much more to the band and their sound – sweet harmonious hooks, rockabilly beats and exuberant yelps and yips, all held together by some breath-taking harmonizing. Slow Club are defined by their own distinct and powerful partnership – Charles with bruised vocal, rasping guitar and disarming lightness of touch; Rebecca with her dash of Northern Soul and sharp wit, playing stand up drums.

Now in 2014 we find the pair emerging from the studio again with what promises to be their career-defining album – Complete Surrender. The LP touches on everything from Motown and the output of Memphis’ Stax Records to the immaculately produced pop of the 1970s, via Frankie Valli and David Bowie. The songs are certainly bigger and the pair have grown from a charmingly ramshackle teenage duo bursting with potential into a fully-formed, self-confident and impressively talented band. Where they take us next is anyone’s guess.
