Watch: Vessels – ‘Echo In’

February 13, 2015 in News

The release of Vessels‘ third album Dilate is a couple of weeks away and new single ‘Echo In’ has been unleashed. It is described as “a fine example of Vessels’ evolving sound—streaked with spiraling synth lines and buzzing chords, the track takes shape as a fast-moving electronic hybrid”, and you can watch the newly released video for the track below.

After four years of incremental musical evolution, Leeds quintet Vessels emerge into the light with a brave and brilliant new sound, masterfully fusing the widescreen builds and elegant breakdowns of their previous work with altogether more physical electronic rhythms. With their new album Dilate, Vessels are firmly focused on the euphoria of the dancefloor.

Dilate began as experiments with looped sounds and vintage synths, the tracks flourishing when played live together in a room. Producer Richard Formby (Spectrum, Wild Beasts, Darkstar) was brought in to finesse the recordings and mix the album in his Leeds studio. There was alchemy in this collaboration, with the band’s dexterous digital manipulations and live energy fed through the prism of Formby’s experience and outlook.

Always a consummate live act, recent performances have been an unholy communion, maintaining the crystalline melodies and crushing dynamics of Vessels’ previous life as a rock band: two drummers front and centre, band and audience feeding off each other’s energy.

Dilate will be released in 2nd March 2015 through Bias, a new imprint of The Leaf Label.

Listen: Songhoy Blues – ‘Irganda’

January 23, 2015 in News

Highly-acclaimed Malian band Songhoy Blues have unveiled their latest single ‘Irganda’ taken from their much talked about debut album Music in Exile, out on 23 February via Transgressive Records.

The band’s deep attachment to the home grown songs and dances of the Songhoy helped shape their music which seeks to blend the traditional and the modern, the homegrown and the foreign. All those old ‘world music’ prejudices have no place here. Songhoy Blues are four talented, hungry, sharp and outward-looking young men from a part of the world that has had more than it’s share and pain and conflict in recent years. But it has given far more than its share of music and joy to the world in return over the past four decades. Songhoy Blues are a familiar proposition: four young men, guitar, drums, bass and vocals, driving rhythms, big hearts and a story to tell.

The single comes off the back of two fantastic years for the band, in which they have grabbed the attention of  labels and music press and also enjoyed a support slot with Damon Albarn at the Royal Albert Hall.

The track is released ahead of their first UK headline tour which kicks off this week and calls at Birmingham’s The Sunflower Lounge on Tuesday 3rd February. Tickets can be found here
