Marika Hackman to play Mama Roux’s

March 3, 2017 in News

Marika Hackman’s hotly-anticipated new album I’m Not Your Man will be released on 2nd June 2017. To celebrate, she embarks on a UK headline tour this spring, calling at Mama Roux’s Birmingham on 29th May.

The english songwriter was once a craftsperson of mannered, progressive indie-folk. However, her new single, “Boyfriend,” is a swift left-turn—it loudly announces that she’s done playing nice. “I’ve got your boyfriend on my mind/I think you know she stayed with me last night,” she sighs, before twisting the knife: “I held his world in my hands/I threw it out to see where it would land.” Backed by London band the Big Moon, she’s found a muscular sound that feels a world away from the quiet of 2015’s We Slept At Last.

Marika Hackman to play Hare & Hounds Birmingham

March 10, 2014 in News

Most 21-year-olds still don’t know what to do with their lives, but Marika Hackman has already been a model for Burberry, and is tipped to be a breakthrough pop artist this year. It was when she was 14 years old and she played her first gig with school friend Cara Delevingne (Hackman played drums while the supermodel played guitar and sang) that she gained a taste for being a musician.

Marika’s music is something very different to the happy-clappy nature of recent folk , hers is a far more potent vision in the lineage of Syd Barrett, but presented by an enigmatic beauty with a striking vocal delivery more akin to that of Nico deftly exploring an unsmiling bereft landscape.

Having already toured  with Benjamin Francis LeftwichMarika Hackman has scheduled her biggest headline touring stint to date, hitting the road during March. The singer will play the Hare & Hounds on 16th March and she’ll also soon head into the studio to work on her debut album.
