Introducing: Naytronix

September 10, 2015 in News

Following the announcement of his new album, Mister Divine, Naytronix (Nate Brenner of tUnE-yArDs) shares another slice of his soulful electronics with new song ‘Back In Time’.

Naytronix’s latest musical offering sees him turning from the disjointedly funky party dance anthems of his debut Dirty Glow to surrealist stream of consciousness poignancy. Throughout Mister Divine, an arsenal of bright percussion underpins Nate’s tranquil vocals, complete with flickering synth sounds and a driving hook courtesy of Nate’s weapon of choice, the bass guitar.

It’s an album that’s hard to pin down periodically; modern themes fuse seamlessly with classic elements. There’s dub, there’s funk, there’s minimalist new wave, there’s jazz, hip hop and lots of electronic. More importantly there’s a lot of soul and warmth in these songs. Naytronix belongs to no musical microcosm other than it’s own, it’s own small tiny galaxy… but it’s expanding.

NAYTRONIX PLAYS THE RAINBOW CELLAR ON WEDNESDAY 25TH NOVEMBER 2015. TICKETS ARE AVAILABLE HERE.

Introducing: Tove Styrke

July 29, 2015 in News

“One of 2015’s finest pop releases, incessantly memorable and full of well-defined character and striking simplicity of craft.” – Spin

Tove Styrke landed a record deal with Sony Sweden in her late teens which led to the 2010 release of her debut album, Tove Styrke. The album went platinum in her native Sweden and earned the talented singer and songwriter a Swedish Grammy nomination. At the age of 22, Tove Styrke made her UK debut with the release of her Borderline EP, which garnered international critical acclaim. “…The Swedish singer is coming back louder than ever.” wrote Vice’s Noisey, and Nylon called her “…one of the country’s biggest up-and-coming singer-songwriters.”

Fast-forward to 2015, and with Scandinavia fast becoming the 21st century pop factory, Styrke is very much part of the community of visible and brilliant women making music. Her latest album, Kiddo, was hailed as “A Feminist Pop Triumph” by Time Magazine, and album of the week by Spin.

Watch: Cattle & Cane – ‘Skies’

July 21, 2015 in News

Cattle & Cane follow the release of ‘Come Home’ in June with a further track taken from their debut album, Home. ‘Skies’ is another slice of perfect harmonic pop from the Middlesbrough five piece, replete with a chorus set to earworm its way into the national consciousness.

Having been tipped following standout performances at T In The Park and Liverpool Sound City, the band have already found themselves in the odd position of being local heroes in their home town, a status emphasized by their forthcoming headline show at the town’s 1000 capacity Teesside University on September 18th to celebrate the album release.

The band emphasized their local pride with support for Middlesbrough FC’s play-off run with a new version of Stevie Wonder’s ‘Isn’t He Lovely’ dedicated to left back George Friend, clocking up over 100,000 YouTube views along. They have also collaborated with the Olde Young Tea House in the town to create a special Cattle and Cane tea, which will be available to buy at all tour dates.

Cattle & Cane release their debut album, Home on September 14th 2015 via Quiet Crown Recordings.

“Surely one of the bands to watch out for in 2015” – Sunday Brunch, Channel 4

“We found ourselves humming incessantly to the gloriously addictive ‘Sold My Soul’ – infectious!” – Tom Robinson, BBC 6 Music

Protomartyr to play The Rainbow Birmingham

July 14, 2015 in News

This October marks the release of Protomartyr’s third and finest work to date, The Agent Intellect. Named after an ancient philosophical questioning of how the mind operates in relation to the self, it’s an elegant and often devastating display of all that makes Protomartyr so vital and singularly visceral an outfit. Their third record in three years (following 2013’s No Passion All Technique & 2014’s Under Color of Official Right), the Detroit four-piece is operating with a clear sense of urgency and focus.

Today, they share the first single off The Agent Intellect, ‘Why Does It Shake?’ Vocalist Joe Casey says of the song, “It’s an back-handed ode to humanity’s resilient self regard in the face of inevitable oblivion. Then the trap door opens.”
