Little Barrie to play Actress & Bishop

May 12, 2017 in News

Little Barrie will release their highly anticipated 5th studio album Death Express on 7th July on Non Delux. Teaser single ‘Love or Love’ was released last December to critical acclaim. The forthcoming video has been directed by Douglas Hart (founding member of The Jesus & Mary Chainand video director for the likes of Paul WellerPrimal ScreamThe Horrors and Toy).

Made up of Barrie Cadogan (guitar/vocals), Lewis Wharton (bass) and Virgil Howe (drums), their fifth album packs a heavy punch, channelling the three members’ ferocious musical chops into a raw, DIY response to today’s atmosphere of confusion and division. There’s no political message, just lyrical food for thought, and some of the tautest, most incendiary grooves you’ll ever hear, enticing even dancefloor-shy listeners to hip-shake away their cares. High-octane meditations on surveillance paranoia (‘Copter’), devious policing at mass protests (‘Molotov Cop’) and greed (‘Vulture Swarm’) have rarely felt so irresistible to body movement.

The album’s genesis kick started, when Little Barrie were invited to provide incidental music for Better Call Saul, a spin-off series from hip TV phenomenon Breaking Bad, for which they’d already cut the theme tune. With no time to book a studio, they were forced to do it themselves, in their practice room. The response was favourable, and they began to feel that such DIY takes had a vibrant quality often lacking from ‘proper’ productions.

Little Barrie to play The Rainbow Birmingham

April 17, 2015 in News

Little Barrie have been growing up in the shadows for 15 years now. Slowly honing their sound and crafting their art. Avoiding hype and surviving fashion and its whimsical dalliances. It’s what great bands do, and it’s a testament to the three players involved that as a band they recently released their strongest album to date – the aptly named Shadow.

Three years after the release of the critically acclaimed King Of The Waves album, the band returned to Edwyn Collins’ West Heath Studios to record the album. Shadow is an expansive, swaggering, musical masterpiece blending all their previous influences with a darker, more cinematic edge to the production. Anyone who has witnessed the band’s live performances over the past few years will testify to just how tight, accomplished and telepathic each element has become.

As a result Shadow oozes the kind of confidence only gained through understanding how to get the most out of every note, every hit and all the spaces in between. It’s an intuitive grasp of music and all its many variables. Recorded and mixed in just 17 days there is a relaxed urgency about Shadow inspired by having recently worked with Anton Newcombe of The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Damo Suzuki (Can), Andrew Weatherall and Pete Molinari.

Little Barrie to play The Sunflower Lounge Birmingham

April 2, 2014 in News

British trio Little Barrie — the group with the unrivalled, trademark blend of rock, blues, garage and soul flavours — are back with their fourth album Shadow, and a UK tour that calls at Birmingham’s Sunflower Lounge on Sat 7th June 2014.

The three-piece have slowly and surely been honing their sound and maturing their style since the group’s debut on record all of 15 years ago. Shadow is the super-cool and confident sound of a band at the top of their game, full of brooding self-confidence, brilliantly combining texture and liveness.

Shadow arrives three years after the band reached new levels of acclaim and recognition with last album King of the Waves, to scenes of fan mania in Japan and national and international touring. The relaxed urgency of the sound is inspired by Cadogan’s recent work with Anton Newcombe of The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Damo Suzuki (Can), Andrew Weatherall and Pete Molinari.

Shortly before recording Shadow, the band supported the likes of The Stone Roses, Charles Bradley, Dinosaur Jr, Kasabian and Primal Scream. Now they set out on the road this summer with their own UK headline tour.
