Juanita Stein (Howling Bells) announces Birmingham show

June 28, 2017 in News

She’s seen the world Americanize, gentrify and divide like a broken heart during a decade of touring the globe with her band Howling Bells, now Juanita Stein returns with America, her first solo collection of songs about a pre-apocalyptic America.

This isn’t the America of goofy teen movies, Twinkies and Trump, no Mam. It’s that shattered dreamland Hunter S. Thompson went looking for. It’s somewhere beyond the pines of Twin Peaks at a crossroads where Badlands met Paris, Texas. A dustball in a once great land, reimagined whilst daydreaming as the towns and plains filtered through the grainy dirt that is the tour bus window during laps of the USA with Coldplay and The Killers.

These are songs from a dark-hearted country, where the lights of Nashville twinkle in the distance as the siren song leads you into the eternal night.

Having supported the likes of Richard HawleyMichael KiwanukaWhite Buffalo and Thomas Dybdahl, Stein’s new single ‘Dark Horse’ was recently featured in The Sunday Times ’Hottest Tracks’.

Howling Bells to play Hare & Hounds Birmingham

March 7, 2014 in News

Australian four-piece Howling Bells return with their stunning new album, Heartstrings, set for release on 2nd June 2014. Recorded at London’s Assault and Battery Studios with producers Catherine J Marks and Alan Moulder, the album is preceded by a single, ‘Slowburn’, on 7th April. The band will celebrate the release of the single by hitting the road and stop by Hare & Hounds Birmingham on Tues 3rd June 2014.

Heartstrings is Howling Bells’ fourth album, and the first they have recorded in their adopted hometown of London (the band’s debut, Howling Bells (2006), was demoed in Australia and recorded in Liverpool, while Radio Wars (2009) and 2011’s The Loudest Engine saw the band decamp to Los Angeles and Las Vegas respectively).

Taking a different approach to the making of their previous records, Howling Bells made the recording of Heartstrings an intense process, laying down a track a day for 11 days, resulting in a potent collection of songs.
