June 11, 2015 in News

B. Dolan’s latest record is the self-produced Kill the Wolf, a sweeping, powerful opus five years in the making. The album reinforces Dolan’s status as a complex lyricist and introduces him as a ambitious, versatile producer, dedicated as ever to concept and vision over fleeting hip-hop trends.

This sophomore studio effort on Strange Famous Records / Speech Development features a supporting cast of talent from a wide range of musical backgrounds, including Aesop RockBuck 65,AliasCecil Otter (Doomtee), Kathleen Stubelek (Circle Takes the Square), DS3KBuddy Peace, and the late David Lamb (Brown Bird) among others.

It would be easy for an album to go astray amidst such varying styles and contributors, but Dolan stays in firm command as an expert conductor, driving the album’s layered and visionary sound. Kill the Wolf sets out with a goal of demolishing the boundaries of what was previously thought possible in a B. Dolan record; bringing the best techniques from his catalogue into a new era of production value by fusing live guitars, analog synths, violins and upright bass with formidable vocals and intricate lyrics.

Five years after shaking the foundations of underground rap with his Fallen House, Sunken City LP, B. Dolan emerges from the earth, battle-tested, clear-eyed, and sharper than ever. It’s time to Kill the Wolf.

Cannibal Ox to play The Rainbow Birmingham

June 2, 2015 in News

An air of mystique surrounds the careers of Harlemites Vast Aire and Vordul Mega, collectively known as Cannibal Ox. Fourteen years after earning their status as luminaries of underground hip-hop, Cannibal Ox has released their highly anticipated sophomore album, Blade of the Ronin. Serving as the follow-up to the duo’s acclaimed debut album, Blade of the Roninis the embodiment of Vast and Vordul’s years of creation and properly serves to provide listeners with the grimy yet futuristic soundscape that they’ve come to expect from Cannibal Ox.

In 2001, Cannibal Ox released its debut album, The Cold Vein, which remains one of the seminal works of the New York hip-hop scene. Regarded as a cult classic amongst hip-hop purists, the album was produced by hip-hop legend El-P (Run the Jewels, Company Flow), and was released to flurry of critical acclaim. Ranked in Pitchfork’s ‘Top 200 Albums of the 2000s’ list, the album received perfect ratings from publications such as Stylus Magazine and HipHopDX.

Blade of the Ronin solidifies the triumphant return of Cannibal Ox as the kings of underground hip-hop, as Vast and Vordul capture their trademark sound with Bill Cosmiq at the helm for the majority of the album’s production. Together, this trio has created an album that personifies a sense of insightful lyricism and poignant production. The album also features tremendous guest appearances from MF Doom, U-God (of Wu-Tang Clan), Elzhi, Artifacts and more.
