H. Hawkline announces Birmingham show

May 22, 2017 in News

H.Hawkline (Huw Evans) has announced details of the release ‘Engineers’, the latest track to be taken from his forthcoming album, I Romanticize which is released on Heavenly Recordings.

Released on Friday June 2nd 2017, I Romanticize (like its predecessor and Heavenly Records debut, 2015’s In The Pink Of Condition) was recorded at Samur Khouja’s Seahorse Sound studio in Los Angeles with all the lyrics written and then vocals recorded in Narberth in west Wales. “Some words, as with their meaning, are unavoidable – ‘love’, ‘goodbye’, ‘time’, ‘you’, – but you can at least try and dress them up in some new clothes.”

Co-produced by Samur, Huw and Cate Le Bon, who also forms part of the quartet who appear on the record along with Josiah Steinbrick – LA composer and producer – and Warpaint’s Stella Mozgawa. “They were the absolute best people for the job, and I also happen to be lucky enough to call them friends. Without their hands and ears the wet clay would have collapsed,” said Huw.

Having previously played with the likes of FoxygenGwenno and long-time cohort Cate le Bon, he has recently announced a run of shows with Devendra Banhart in June / July and a number of festival appearances over the summer.

H Hawkline & Gwenno to play The Rainbow Bham

July 15, 2015 in News

Welsh songwriters H Hawkline and Gwenno team up for a joint headline UK tour to celebrate 25 years of legendary label Heavenly Recordings.

Fresh off a major UK support tour with the illustrious Cate le BonH Hawkline and band will perform songs from new album In The Pink Of Condition. Hawkline himself is referring to this new album as “strange pop”, informed by Richard Brautigan and Paul McCartney’Ram, with Cate Le Bon handling production duties in Los Angeles.

In a period of governmental and cultural revolution, former Pipettes front-woman, Gwenno Saunders releases a political concept album inspired by an obscure 1970s Welsh language sci-fi novel, subtly disguised as a blissful kraut-pop record. Written by Gwenno and produced by Rhys EdwardsY DYDD OLAF (The Last Day) turns its back on predictable commercial aspirations and lifts a defiant middle finger in the direction of the mainstream.

Watch: H. Hawkline – ‘Spooky Dog’

February 16, 2015 in News

Welsh artist H Hawkline, who defines his music as ‘strange pop’, has released the video for new single ‘Spooky Dog’ taken from his latest album In The Pink of Condition.

Shot through with the blues, the reds and the golds, the greens and the wispy white clouds that hang lazy over the rolling Pacific, In The Pink Of Condition truly marks H Hawkline’s arrival. His first album proper for Heavenly Recordings, it blossoms with all the charm, beauty, wit and wonder that’s been hinted at over the last few years across the artist’s limited run releases, singles and EPs and adds a brilliantly clear-eyed focus.

Huw Hawkline was born in Cardiff and raised in sunny Prestatyn, a seaside town famous for the Pontins holiday camp and the first ever branch of Kwik Save. Formerly co-presenter of S4C’s flagship music-show Bandit (alongside Radio 1’s Huw Stephens), twenty-nine year old Huw recorded three albums in his native country (2010’s A Cup Of Salt, 2011’s The Strange Uses Of Ox Gall and the 2014 collection Salt Gall Box Ghouls) before taking flight for a life in L.A. late in 2013. (Well, you would if you could, wouldn’t you?)

The effect of the relocation on Hawkline’s music is total. Recorded in Seahorse Sound Studios just off Skid Row and produced by long-time cohort, fellow Welsh émigré and musical maven/genius Cate le BonIn The Pink Of Condition is “strange pop” (words borrowed from Huw): a controlled explosion of lazer-guided guitar melody (think a careering Television set or the Pavement outside the original site of Spillers) and whip smart bi-lingual wordplay.
