Superfood reveal new track ‘Bubbles’

September 18, 2013 in News

Yesterday saw Birmingham four-piece Superfood reveal much-anticipated new track ‘Bubbles’.

The song was premiered on Radio 1, and follows previous tracks ‘Superfood’ and ‘TV’.

Speaking of the track, vocalist and guitarist Dom Ganderton said: “It’s a discordant, vile, beautiful mess about people not having anything important to say but saying something for the sake of it.”

Following their previous sellout show at The Rainbow for Birmingham Promoters, Superfood are currently in the midst of a headline UK tour, which will be swiftly followed by two dates supporting fellow Birmingham indie heroes Peace.

Drenge & Superfood to support Peace

August 27, 2013 in News

Peace have announced the supports for their biggest hometown headline show to date – Sheffield duo Drenge, and local four-piece Superfood will open for the band at the O2 Academy Birmingham on Friday 13th December 2013.

After months of being championed almost exclusively by blogs and indie rags, Drenge made national news this summer when Labour MP Tom Watson resigned from the shadow cabinet while telling world that he “was seized with those fragmentary moments of pure music joy that festival goers live for” after discovering brothers Eoin and Rory Loveless’ music at Glastonbury. While it might not have been the most credible affirmation of their talents, it’s certainly spread the band’s name beyond the small village of Castleton where they grew up.

Their eponymous debut album is laced with punchy breakbeats, thrashy riffs, and psychedelic bluesy rackets with hints of Eagles of Death MetalThe Hives & QOTSA. It’s anthemic, razor sharp garage rock of the finest pedigree; raucous and relentless, fevered and furious – little wonder Zane Lowe has featured them on his ‘Hottest Record in the World’ segment recently.

Their live shows amplify Drenge’s strengths to an even greater degree. Despite the relatively basic setup of Rory on drums and Eoin on guitar, they still manage to make a deliriously addictive racket that takes listeners on a dizzying rollercoaster ride as potent as it is addictive. With dates supporting FIDLARMystery Jets & Deap Vally already under their belt Drenge are clearly making all the right (angry) noises.

Hailing from Birmingham,  four-piece oddball gang Superfood have gained a fierce live reputation, initially with zero singles, zero YouTube videos and not even a Soundcloud to their name. Shrouded in accidental secrecy, it wasn’t until recently that Superfood unveiled their first ever recorded track that started it all entitled, er, ‘Superfood’.

This January they finally unveiled themselves to a capacity Old Blue Last crowd supporting fellow brummies Jaws. A sold out UK tour supporting Peace quickly followed, as well as their own sold out headline show at Birmingham’s The Rainbow.

“Merging the buoyant pop hooks of Supergrass and the baggy tinges of Blur into something that shimmers as hard as it swaggers.” - NME

Deap Vally & Drenge play The Rainbow Birmingham

January 21, 2013 in News

Super excited to announce we’re hosting one of the hottest double-bills of the year: Deap Vally and Drenge headlining The Rainbow Birmingham!

Deap Vally return to our shores for their first confirmed tour dates of 2013 and the release of a new single. The LA duo, who recently completed UK and European dates as guests of The Vaccines and then Muse, will release ‘Lies’ on Communion / Island Records, and play nationwide dates, including a headline show at Birmingham’s The Rainbow.

Deap Vally break blues down to its simplest, most fundamental form: beat, melody, and meaning, while the duo’s scorching live shows are fast becoming the stuff of legend. Unlikely as it may seem, the pair did actually first meet at a needlework class, just last year – bonding over their crochet hooks with a love of the blues. Demos and videos of the girls’ live shows have been cropping up online with increasing frequency over the past few months, and Filter Magazine invited the band to perform at their Coachella party. The pair have even caught the ears of one Josh Homme, whose Eagles of Death Metal invited the girls to open for them in LA.

“Think a hippie Karen O fronting Black Sabbath and you’re somewhere in the caustic, blues-riffing ballpark as these Los Angelinos.  A hollerin’, howlin’, hell-raising duo” – NME

Drenge, a Sheffield-based two-piece composed of brothers Eoin and Rory Loveless, follow in the guitar/drum duo lineage well paved by the likes of The White Stripes.

Expect punchy breakbeats, thrashy riffs, and psychedelic bluesy rackets with awesome titles like ‘People In Love Make Me Feel Yuck’ and hints of Eagles of Death Metal, The Hives & QOTSA.

It’s all about feisty, unrestrained garage rock for the Loveless brothers and with dates supporting FIDLAR, Mystery Jets and Eagulls already under their belt Drenge are clearly making all the right (angry) noises.

DEAP VALLY AND DRENGE CO-HEADLINE THE RAINBOW BIRMINGHAM ON SUN 24TH FEBRAURY 2013, WITH OPENING SUPPORT FROM BLACK DOLLAR BILLS. TICKETS AVAILABLE HERE.
