THE WARLOCKS+ VIOLET + THE HUNGRY GHOSTS

Having emerged from the same Californian psychedelic scene as The Brian Jonestown Massacre 18 years ago, it’s been a rocky road for The Warlocks and their one constant member, Bobby Hecksher, with numerous line-up changes along the way. Frontman Hecksher grew up in the swamps of Tampa Bay, Florida where he was practically raised at a radio station owned by his Grandfather and where his mum also worked as a secretary. As a result Bobby was soon eating and breathing rock’n’roll on a daily basis.

Bobby recalls, “My granddad was an inspiration. He created the radio station out of thin air. And from it all these nuggets of rock’n’roll came toward me”. At sixteen his family left the swamps and moved to LA where Bobby soon found kindred spirits. He jammed with Beck, playing bass on ‘Stereopathetic Soul Manure’; he hung out in the in the decadent atmosphere of the Mad Hatter club and moonlighted in the Brian Jonestown Massacre whilst also attending parties with legendary acid guru Timothy Leary, a potent cultural and creative mix that led to the formation of The Warlocks.

Songs from the Pale Eclipse (2016), the band’s seventh collection to date, Hecksher and co have taken an entirely different route to their previous releases. Instead of embarking on the arduous process of writing new material, they’ve gone back through vaults of demos recorded over their long standing career before selecting ten songs initially recorded at various stages of the band’s career. Having reworked and re-recorded each piece, they conjured up an album that’s up there alongside some of their finest.

Plus support from VIOLET

Midlands five-piece Violet are drenched in big sounds with an indie spark, combining influences that draw from 90s grunge to Britpop.

Pedal immersed guitars entwined with intricate drums and powerful basslines come together to create a unique ethereal, yet captivating sound. The band are likened to the ambiance of Slowdive, the mystique of The Horrors and the intensity of The Brian Jonestown Massacre.

Formed in late 2016 through interconnected lives, Violet have spent the best part of a year writing, recording and honing their sound. Having played a mere handful of gigs the band are yet to bloom, but with music on the way there’s plenty to look out for.

Plus support from THE HUNGRY GHOSTS

Formed in 2014 The Hungry Ghosts emerged from the depths of the Birmingham suburbs, a five piece slaughterhouse garage blues and trash country band bringing music from the other side of the fence. A local underground following, and a noise from those in the know have seen the band supporting the likes of The Wytches, Yak and Sunflower Bean.

“With unique vocals and layers of fast and gritty guitar riffs. They bring good old fashioned rock and roll to the table, with a more modern take with aspects of synthy tones appearing in bursts.” – Little Indie Blogs
