QUJAKU+ THE COURTESY GROUP + HISTORY OF SEX

QUJAKU are a Japanese psychedelic band formed in 2013 and based in Shizuoka, Japan. Their music is described as “gothic dark shoegaze”, bringing to mind the likes of The Horrors, but with hints of Scandinavian post rock a la Sigur Ros, noise rock and psychedelia.

Formerly known as The Piqnic, the band followed their debut album ZyouK with an EP titled Keiren, the first release under the Qujaku umbrella.

“A solitary rumble of sonic discordance, metronomic instrumentation and, at each climax, something akin to a hyperactive wig-out, in effect creating something dark and challenging and yet still curiously joyous.” – Artrocker

For fans of Damo Suzuki, the Stooges, Bauhaus.

Set apart in their own musical galaxy Birmingham’s own tunemongering grinesters, The Courtesy Group, survive against fashion, mediocrity, systematic dullness and impossible odds. Marmite to most musical confectionery, their debut album Tradesman’s Entrance has been aired on Stuart Maconie, Jarvis Cocker and Guy Garvey’s BBC6 shows, as well as receiving four star reviews from MOJO and from Stewart Lee in The Sunday Times. Live, they remain consistently dangerous and a robust antidote to a fully digitalised itunes world.
