LITTLE BARRIE+ GIL DE RAY

British trio Little Barrie — the group with the unrivalled, trademark blend of rock, blues, garage and soul flavours — are back with their fourth album Shadow, and a UK tour that calls at Birmingham’s Sunflower Lounge on Sat 7th June 2014.

The three-piece have slowly and surely been honing their sound and maturing their style since the group’s debut on record all of 15 years ago. Shadow is the super-cool and confident sound of a band at the top of their game, full of brooding self-confidence, brilliantly combining texture and liveness.

Shadow arrives three years after the band reached new levels of acclaim and recognition with last album King of the Waves, to scenes of fan mania in Japan and national and international touring. The relaxed urgency of the sound is inspired by Cadogan’s recent work with Anton Newcombe of The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Damo Suzuki (Can), Andrew Weatherall and Pete Molinari.

Shortly before recording Shadow, the band supported the likes of The Stone Roses, Charles Bradley, Dinosaur Jr, Kasabian and Primal Scream. Now they set out on the road this summer with their own UK headline tour.

Plus support from GIL DE RAY

Originally from Glasgow and now living in London, Gil De Ray has been making music since childhood and has released records under the names Cody High School, The Purple Om Eaters as well as the notorious Blak Magik Society ‘Up Against The Wall Motherfuckers’.

Last year saw the release of his debut solo album Infect The Culture, an intense slab of high energy rock ‘n’ roll incorporating the influences of the MC5 and Suicide. Now with a new band he has been recording his follow up Low Sun Rising, an album that has been recorded between London, Paris and Helsinki. The result is an expansive and genre defying journey mashing up the influences that have helped craft Gil’s songs. Low Sun Rising is a perfect slice of psychedelic soul and rock ‘n’ roll designed for long summer nights on the riviera. As with his debut, Gil shows he is not afraid to tell it like it is lyrically with songs dealing with political subterfuge, an oncoming police state, black magic, the war on consciousness as well as paranoia, depression and love.
